Authors

Abstract

The central theme of this original article is ethnic-racial relations present in textbooks for “Educação de Jovens e Adultos” Youth and Adult Education (EJA). The overall aim is to examine how such issues are dealt with in a textbook for the Early Years of Elementary School at a municipal school in Machado/MG. Predominantly qualitative in nature, the research which this article is resulted from used documentary research as its main information-gathering technique, using both Aníbal Quijano's studies on colonialities of knowledge and power and Silvana Souza Ramos's studies on political correctness as theoretical references. Through the main results, it was possible to indentify that the didactic material analyzed in the research is partially free of stereotyped or prejudiced texts and images in relation to black people. In addition, the presence of political correctness ends up revealing the presence of coloniality in the material.
