Abstract
This research proposed a reading of the culinary phenomenon #paodemia, which has taken place in Brazil since the beginning of 2020, through the American semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce. The aim was to analyze the increase in homemade bread production in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, evidenced in social media. Descriptive and exploratory research, data were collected through the application of an online questionnaire with 400 participants and analyzed qualitatively. There was an increase in people interested in preparing their own bread during the social isolation, in addition to the use of this practice as a strategy to maintain the emotional state and sense of security of having a product with better quality, which will lead to diners more flavor, health and safety. Several signs and meanings were given to both the bread and its preparation in the analyzed context. It was noted that the hashtags #paodemia and #pãodemia represent new languages that invite people to reenter kitchens and the universe of bakery.
