Students and graduates of Agronomy at the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC) - Campus São Miguel do Oeste joined this case study. The research aimed to characterize the profile of academics and correlate the training trajectory with professional insertion. The emphasis is on the family farming succession process among those from rural units. In methodological terms, the data collection took place through closed questionnaires. The target audience was 61 students and 36 graduates. Data analysis shows that 63.9% of respondents come from rural families. Others 28.8% have no parental connections with agriculture. The geographical origin of the graduates/students is in municipalities located within a radius of 60 km from São Miguel do Oeste. Desires regarding the course are similar among groups with different backgrounds, with many uncertainties persisting on the future. Changes of mind about the desired professional occupation are usual during the course year. After graduating, while waiting for job opportunities, many assume temporary jobs which differ from their aspirations. Among those from rural areas, the search for improving the family property and continuing as a farmer stands out, with one out of two graduates aiming to manage the family businesses.
Kataline ChiesaAdinor José CapellessoCherilo Dalbosco

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3544

Traditional vehicles powered by internal combustion use fossil fuels derived from petroleum, which is a non-renewable source of energy, releasing polluting gases into the atmosphere capable of interfering with climate change and contributing to an increase in the average temperature of the planet. A solution to minimize the emission of pollutants is the use of purely electric traction vehicles, which require energy storage systems that are increasingly adequate and efficient. In this context, the main objective of this work is to analyze and implement an energy storage system, thus aiming to define the most efficient type for applications in a low-cost purely electric traction vehicle. It was observed that Li-ion (Lithium Ion) batteries are currently the most suitable for this type of application, however, they require a dedicated control to provide the best performance, useful life and safety guarantee. In this way, a BMS (Battery Management System) circuit was developed, responsible for managing the charging and discharging processes, balancing between series of the battery packs. The BMS implemented proved to be adequate, being able to guarantee the satisfactory operation of the storage system.
Jeferson FraytagVinicius Guimarães Jutel

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3559

The physiological potential of seeds is an important characteristic that can influence the performance of germination and plant growth. Seed treatment can help stimulate rapid and uniform plant germination and emergence, which can contribute to the production of vegetable seedlings. Salicylic acid is a compound that acts in the growth and development processes of plants. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of treating Romanesco broccoli seeds with different doses of salicylic acid (SA) on seedling production. The experiment was conducted at the Federal University of Fronteira Sul, Chapecó campus. Romanesco broccoli seeds, cultivar Otobrino, were used. The AS doses used were: 0, 2, 4 and 6 mMol/L. The variables analyzed were: plant emergence and seedling height, number of leaves, root length, and dry mass of roots and shoots of seedlings. The results obtained were submitted to analysis of variance and regression (p<0.05). There was an effect of AS doses only on plant emergence at seven DAS, with a percentage reduction as a result of increasing doses; for the other variables tested, there were no differences between treatments. Under the conditions in which this research was carried out, it can be concluded that the treatment of seeds of Broccoli, CV Romanesco, with the tested doses has no influence on the quality of seedlings produced in trays in a period of 35 days.
Emely de Souza MelloKarolina Bressan RheinnheimerFelipe Talian JantschVanessa Neumann Silva

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3647

This article aims to analyze the characters in the 1974 horror novel “Carrie”, by Stephen King, taking into consideration the theories present in the elements of the narrative and considering literature as a science that must be proven in detail by us, as Portuguese language teachers. The theoretical assumptions that allowed this analysis were Gancho (2003) and Cândido (1976) as well as Stephen King’s book itself. The analysis showed that a story is much more than what is on the printed paper, it is interpretative and each character is important in making the narrative a tangle of choices, actions and consequences.
Douglas Zanini RibasGisele Dalmolin Bonella

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3653

This article aims to systematize research on the inclusion of deaf students in Brazil, in the time frame between 2017 and 2021, focusing on pedagogical resources aimed at teaching these students, seeking for a better understanding of the phenomenon at stake. To systematize the studies, the integrative research criteria were used. Sixteen studies were selected from three databases, which were analyzed and interpreted qualitatively. Data analysis revealed that research focusing on pedagogical resources has empirically investigated three categories of resources and their tools: the digital ones for Libras accessibility; game activities and concrete objects; imagetic and visual materials. The study concluded that, although the analysis indicated a very diverse range of pedagogical tools for the inclusion of deaf students in the classroom, they all require the presence of a Libras interpreter in the classroom for a more assertive inclusion. It also concluded that there is a need for more bibliographical studies with broader scopes and by regions, to systematize the knowledge already produced in this epistemic field in Brazil, as well as more robust subsidies for future research.
Marimar da SilvaElandria Lima

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3741

Discussions regarding the use of plastic and its consequences stimulate the search for alternative materials, such as bioplastic, produced from renewable sources. One of the single-use plastic products, used on a large scale, and also by People with Disabilities – PwD, is the straw. The use of straws, mainly due to their environmental impacts, is the subject of legal regulations for their restriction and banning, however for a portion of society that depends on this product for their survival, as is the case of many PwD, these regulations are exclusionary. In this context of socio-environmental debates, and considering that a portion of society is dependent on straws, the work set out to raise and compare, through a literature review, the advantages and limitations of the use of plastic straws by PwD, taking into account environmental, social and economic aspects. For its execution, a systematic bibliographic review was carried out followed by a comparative analysis. The results show that the production of bioplastic straws can be as polluting as conventional plastic straws, as well as their disposal; despite being a dispensable item for most people, for some PwD it is an essential item that cannot be eliminated from the market; The costs to produce a conventional plastic straw are lower than alternatives. Therefore, it cannot be concluded that bioplastic straws are a favorable solution for both the environment and PwD; new materials need to be developed so that they can be accessible, sustainable and inclusive.
Graciane PereiraVinícius José Schuartz Rafael Ademar LanserLucas Felisky ZuchiIsadora Tschoeke Hening

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3752

The financing of higher education is a global challenge that affects the expansion, quality, and equity of education, involving complexities such as institutional autonomy, funding sources, fund distribution, and institutional assessment. Countries face diverse challenges due to their educational structures and governmental goals. Understanding funding sources is essential to comprehend governmental policies. Although there is research on financing models, few studies address the perspectives of universities. This article aims to discuss the financing of higher education in G7 countries through a Systematic Literature Review, considering current challenges in educational systems. A state-of-the-art survey was conducted using the systematic review method, ensuring greater reliability and reproducibility. Some countries have more than one mechanism to finance universities; for example, the USA combines tuition subsidies with state support. Canada utilizes incremental funding and student tuition fees. In England, the educational system is focused on the student's vocation, while in Brazil, the main focus is on professionalization. Financing intentions by formulas coincide, but higher education expenditures differ, being less than 1% of GDP in England. The results show that, despite some countries being grouped by similar characteristics, higher education in each country has its specificities, requiring careful analysis of financing structures, considering the uniqueness of each system.
Carla Andréa Mendonça de AlbuquerqueMaria Silene Alexandre LeiteAntonio Cezar BorniaMatheus Soares Brum de Mello

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3795

Palliative care is part of a multidisciplinary approach to humanized care, aiming to promote comprehensive quality of life for patients with life-threatening health conditions and their families. This article aims to explore nurses' perceptions, knowledge, and practices regarding Palliative Care. It is a descriptive and exploratory qualitative research conducted in the first semester of 2022 through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Content Analysis technique. The meaningful units in the nurses' accounts generated two categories: Difficulty in implementing Palliative Care in the Medical Clinic Unit and Professional Qualification of Nurses for the delivery of Palliative Care in the Medical Clinic Unit. The results highlight challenges such as ineffective communication and lack of team training to care for patients and their families. Regarding professional qualification, nurses reported that they did not have any coursework during their undergraduate education that provided them with knowledge on the subject. Thus, it becomes evident that there is a need for training for nursing teams working in this sector regarding palliative care, enhancing the care delivery model for both patients and their families..

Keywords: Palliative Care. https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3590

This article presents the experience report of a project developed in a technical high school class in chemistry in 2019, "The gender of chemistry", in which a didactic sequence was used that aimed to provide, in addition to learning chemistry, more specifically on the topic of radioactivity, a reflection on the representation of gender in science. The results are presented through the discourses of the students participating in the project, collected from (self) evaluative questionnaires and it was possible to evaluate the results in terms of significant learning, the difficulties encountered, the contextualization of knowledge through the adoption of interdisciplinarity, their reflections about women's issues in the sciences and the historical erasure of women chemists, as well as how much the chemical knowledge of radioactivity was appropriated by them and the positions that were possible as a result of this appropriation. The research showed that the inter and transdisciplinary pedagogical proposal of the project allowed the students to feel they were the subjects of the learning process and contributed to their better understanding and position in relation to the reality that surrounds them and to radioactivity. Likewise, it was possible to verify the importance of addressing the gender issue with science, contributing to social discussions in the area.
Leila Violin

https://periodicos.ifsc.edu.br/index.php/rtc/article/view/3975

The university educational model has transformed over the last few decades. One aspect is the expansion of the applicability of artificial intelligence (AI) in pedagogical and teaching practices. In parallel to this, the phenomenon of academic productivism values performance based on quantitative criteria of technical-scientific publications. These aspects converge into one theme, the production of scholarly texts. In this scenario, AI of the generative category is presented, classified as a disruptive technology that is capable of creating texts from the processing of information existing on the internet. Despite the intrinsic benefits of the tool, the educational sphere has been reflecting on the possible negative impacts related to scientific integrity and academic misconduct, in part due to the failure to develop a critical sense in the practice of writing when using the tool, especially the commission of plagiarism. Considering that educational institutions are spaces with potential for critical reflection, the eighth edition of the live “Academic Dialogues” welcomed two guests, Jesué Graciliano da Silva, and Eli Lopes da Silva, to discuss the ethical use of AI in the production practices of academic texts and how plagiarism touches on this issue. The lecture is an initiative of the Publications Coordination (PROPPI) and the IFSC Editorial Board. It was broadcast on the IFSC YouTube channel, on August 14, 2024.
Elton Paulo Dobrovoliski Jesué Graciliano da SilvaEli Lopes da Silva
